Great idea, minor flaw... fun toy or practice amp.
"Grabbed this after reading every review I could find... not many exist yet.

A reviewer here mentioned a hum when at idle. I found that it does indeed hum fairly loudly if the Volume or Gain controls are dimed. It also seems to hum more if a single coil guitar has it's tone control dimed. Keep the volume and gain at "bedroom" levels and it sounds fine. It certainly is noticeable and slightly annoying, but not a deal breaker for me.

With my Gibson Melody Maker tone control up to 10, it does hum when volume or gain are above about '7' or so (rough estimate as not marked... about 3o'clock on clock dial looking at the knob) If I back off volume and gain a bit, the hum goes away.

Using humbuckers via a Gretsch 6120, Gibson Les Paul Studio and a BC Rich Bich, it hums noticeably less... but it is still present above about '8'.

I strongly suspect the power supply is the culprit in causing the hum. I'm pondering trying to cobble together a supply that will reduce the noise... perhaps an inline noise filter between the power supply and the amp itself. Will be attempting to locate another power supply option, or build one myself to see if I can clear up the hum.

That said... this is a neat amp. Offers 5 watts Class A/B in a format the size of a pedal. Wow.
Tone is pretty amazing... the Bass, Middle, Treble and Gain controls really change the overall tone drastically. It does a pretty good job of giving you the Plexi tone at low volumes. Much better clone of the Plexi than other solid state modeling amps I've toyed with.
The FX loop is a great touch... something I wish my vintage tube amps had.

I did buy the British Invasion as well... between the two, the Purple Wind does the intended tone better. I would suggest buying the Purple Wind between the two if you are torn. Both are certainly neat options. But for the 200$ tag of buying both and still needing a speaker cabinet, these are not something I would suggest to someone buying their first, or sole amp.

Overall... is the Purple Wind worth it?
    For me, yes.
It adds the Plexi tone to my home playing in a tiny format.
Would I gig it? Nope. 5 watts with less than 5 usable due to hum is too little.
Would I record with it?... Nah, I have better amps.
Would I buy it again?... Yes. Yes I would. Good option for a bedroom practice amp assuming you already have a speaker cabinet... I plug it through my existing cabinets and combos and it handles various speaker load impedance without issue.
Great bedroom amp option for those looking to extend their tonal options."
Nice practice amp, but not working well with all type of guitars
"NOTE: I updated the review from 3 to 4 stars after trying the amp with a few more guitars I have. This little thing really sounds great with some guitars, and really bad with the others, so it could be better to try it with a specific guitar before buying it.

    The Good:
It is very cute and very portable, could even fit in the guitar case or in the pocket of a gig bag.
Only tried with headphones and a 8 inch cab, and it does the job for bedroom practice.
Cannot compare with a "real" Plexi, never tried one, but it has a great distorted tone with some hot pickups.
On its own not a lot of noise unless at 100% volume and gain, or using some pedals. Not as bad as some other reviewers describe, probably depends on luck and/or specific mix of gear.

    The Bad:
This thing doesn't do "clean", even with gain at 0. It is always a bit dirty (not always a bad thing).
A bit annoying thump when powered on and off, seem to lack any speaker protection. Not sure if that could damage a cab.

    The Ugly:
The biggest issue for me is how difficulty it is to set the EQ to have a decent tone, comparing to every other amp I have. It is quite aggressive, and balance between mid and treble seem a bit off, I always keep the treble below 30% to sound half decent with P90s, Tele single coils, or vintage type humbuckers."
OnTrac driver threw the package up a flight of stairs onto the second floor.
"OnTrac driver threw the package up a flight of stairs onto the second floor. I listened to the box bounce once before slamming into my screen door. I ran to the door and was at the door seconds after hearing it bounce and hit the door. The driver had clearly run away, there was no other way for him to disappear so fast. I don't let creepy low life's like this anywhere into my life and the idea that one of them was on the property where I live is seriously unnerving. Needless to say the unit can't be trusted to stay in working order after it took such dramatic hits.

As for the unit, it's a cheap solid state amp packaged to look cool. It adds another flavor to my amp collection at a ridiculously low price, though. Anyone who thinks any of these units compares to the ones supposedly imitated is fooling themselves. They're worth the price and sound good in the right context; that's all anyone can expect from any amp at this price."
